Story
So I thought this would be a fun little challenge for myself and also help raise a little bit of extra money and most importantly awareness for an amazing charity.
As a lot of you will know why this is a charity which means so much to us.
For those who don't, our seemingly perfect and healthy beautiful baby daughter was stillborn in may 2009. Whilst it had been a difficult pregnancy for me we were constantly assured that our beautiful baby girl was growing strong.
Then at 36 weeks after a short episode of reduced movements we had a scan which revealed our only darling daughters heart had stopped beating, she was born sleeping 2 days later, exactly one month before her due date. Our lives were devastated in an instant and have never been the same since.
In the weeks after she was born we learnt more about the charity based at The Sharoe Green Unit and the work that they do. Like many other families we had used the shop when had visited the unit but had never really given a thought to the reasons behind the work they do every day.
The Baby Beat Appeal was established in 1987 and aims to maintain and raise standards in preventative care and foetal well being at the Sharoe Green Maternity Unit at Royal Preston Hospital.
What the Baby Beat Appeal aims to do:
- Each of the 4,600 babies delivered in the Sharoe Green Maternity Unit deserves the best chance of life
- A baby's nine month journey into the world is hazardous and the last few hours and minutes crucial to life
- The Maternity Unit's capital budget provides essentials
- Its midwives and medical staff are experienced and dedicated but need access to the latest technology
- The Baby Beat Appeal allows them to take advantage of the very best in foetal monitoring equipment
