Story

Natalie and Sonia would just like to thank the amazing people that turned up yesterday at Redwell and zumba'd for 2 hours to raise monies for Niamhs Next Step.

We are going to be collecting in any sponsorship monies to add to the just giving total.

Again, thank you................

Please read her story below;

Niamh Curry was diagnosed with stage four high risk neuroblastoma in December 2010 when she was just 3 years old. Since then, Niamh has spent countless days and nights in hospital for treatment that has included chemotherapy, a four hour operation to remove the tumour which was located on her adrenal gland, high dose chemotherapy and stem cell transplant and 14 treatments of radiotherapy. On top of all this there have been many blood and platelet transfusions, scans, hospital visits and loads of time spent away from home.

Despite all this, lovely Niamh still remains the happiest, kindest, most caring little girl you will ever meet. She is always smiling and loves a big huggle with her big sister Hannah or her mummy and daddy Chris and Samantha.

Things were going really well with Niamh’s treatment and she started at big school in September 2011. Life for the Curry family felt like it was getting back to normal, and in November 2011, plans were put into place for Niamh to start the antibody immunotherapy treatment which gives the best hope of keeping the neuroblastoma away for good. At last—after nearly a whole year of different treatments Samantha and Chris felt that there was light at the end of the tunnel. As is usual, before the new treatment could begin, the hospital carried out all the necessary scans and bone marrow biopsies.

Just two days before going into hospital for the immunotherapy treatment, Niamh's parents got a phone call from the hospital that broke their hearts all over again—the cancer had come back.

Niamh began two new types of chemotherapy in November 2011 to try and beat the relapse. Her progress will be checked again in early 2012 which mean that the family will have a clearer idea of where Niamh will need to go next in the battle to give their little girl the best chance of life. There is no UK protocol to treat relapsed neuroblastoma. Now Niamh’s best chance of beating this awful cancer lie in America. Niamh’s mum and dad hope that she can start her specialised therapy in America early this year. This potentially lifesaving treatment is likely to cost at least £500,000.

Niamh’s friends and family aim to raise as much money as possible for the life-saving treatment. Please give as much as you can afford to help save Niamh and other children like her.

Chris, Samantha, Niamh, and her big sister Hannah told us “Every gift, no matter how small, really does make a difference. Thank you so much for your support. It means the world to us.”
