I will be taking the plunge and braving the cold, choppy and
hopefully clean water of the Thames, dodging tug-boats and floaters, to
swim 1 mile to raise money for Encompass on 3rd July 2010!
This is a big challenge for me, especially as I have had a fear of things lurking in dark water since I was a child, but I am determined to overcome this fear and swim the equivalent of 64 lengths of the pool, but outside against the backdrop of the London skyline!
The event
will take place on 3rd July 2010, just a few days away from the
anniversary of the London Bombings back in 2005, which will be a stark
reminder of what Encompass is striving to achieve; to give young people
the opportunity to come face to face with those from different
cultures, religions and backgrounds to their own, to support them to
confront their stereotypes and to understand that, despite their
differences, they can work together and become ambassadors for peace.
Help
me raise my target of £500 which will go towards paying for a young
person to take part in our next 'Journey of Understanding' programme,
which will bring together young people from the UK, Israel, Palestine,
Indonesia and the US. Read about the experience of one young American
from our most recent 'Journey of Understanding' here.

This challenge will be exciting and I can't wait to 'dive in', so please help me to stay motivated! You are also welcome to come and join me at Victoria Dock at 12:35pm on 3rd July. Full details of the event can be found here.
