St Pauls Orphanage is located in Karen, Kenya and relies totally on donations to survive. The establishment is run by Jane Mutahi whose entrepreneurial skills have helped the centre survive. At St Pauls, they have bore holes and a purification process and are able to sell water to the local community along with chickens, eggs and they are growing vegetables for their own consumption. Recently, the KLM CSR team called wings of support have supported several programs that have made life changing conditions to the Orphanage but of course the centre needs continual support.
The reason and motivation behind this social networking site is to create a fund of $30.000 to build a complex at the centre to provide 30 self contained studio apartments. 20 of these apartments will become affordable lets to the local community that is in desperate need and will provide an income to Jane, but more importantly, St Pauls will have 10 self contained apartments for the girls aged between 16 and 18 that have lived all their lives in the Orphanage. Currently, these girls finish their education and have to leave in search of employment and sadly they end up on the streets with very few options. We have negotiated with several local companies to offer these girls training and employment during this transitional period in their lives and they can live in the safety of the studios with the support of Jane and her team and learn to be self sufficient before confidently leaving with a career and a future. The project has received local planning approval but is in need of funding.
So to all of my wonderful and generous friends and family, who also have wonderful friends and family, and with the power of facebook we could reach 30.000 friends within a matter of months. So I kindly ask you to invite everybody in your lists to join us. We will soon be informing everybody of the just giving account details. We are planning to hold a “St Pauls Day” on Saturday 25th September which will be a dedicated fund raising day.
Thank you in advance for your generous help and support for this life changing project (read less)
