Raising money for Cornwall Hospice Care

Cornwall Hospice Care provides care and support throughout Cornwall, for people living with life-threatening illnesses, their families and carers, not only in our two hospices - St Julia’s in Hayle and Mt Edgcumbe in St Austell - but also in outreach centres across the county. Last year, nearly 500 people benefited from over 7,400 bed days, receiving treatment to alleviate pain and control symptoms. The care given to patients and their families is provided free of charge, but costs us over £5 million annually (£10 a minute). Only 13% of this is funded by the government which means that we rely heavily on the generous support of the general public, donations, challenges and fundraising events. All the money we raise stays in Cornwall.

Thank you for visiting the ‘Build The Vision’ St Julia’s Appeal fundraising page. Your support is invaluable in helping us to reach our £1.5million target which will allow Cornwall Hospice Care to build a much needed extension to the existing hospice.

This exciting development will increase the number of beds at St Julia’s by 50% and create a dedicated and separate area for day patients. With ever increasing demand on the services at St Julia’s, this extension will allow us to give more people the specialist support they so desperately need.

Currently Cornwall has 24 adult palliative care beds and all of these are provided by Cornwall Hospice Care. In the recent past we have sometimes had to turn patients away, which is frustrating for our medical team and extremely disappointing for patients and their families. This project at St Julia’s is part of our ongoing commitment to meet the growing hospice needs of the people of Cornwall.
