Story
I lost my dad to cancer in 2001, he was an inspiration and a fighter to the end. I'm hoping to raise a funds for Cancer Research UK, to help them carry on researching ways to fight cancer and provide support to both sufferers and anybody else affected by it.
I love mountains so the challenge is to trek up Bulgaria's second highest peak on the 5th or 6th October 2013...
Mount Vihren (2915m above sea level) is in the wild rugged Pirin Mountains (named after Perun, the Slavic god of thunder) in the SW of Bulgaria, a national park and a UNESCO World Heritage Site, full of wild brown bears and wolves, so I won't feel lonely, if i see any I'll quickly whip out the iPhone for a crafty selfie with them, so watch this space...
I'm aiming to get to the top on the 5th or 6th Oct. From the gateway town, I'll spend a few days hiking around the park to acclimatise to the altitude, then tackle the big one when the weather looks good.
Flying out to Sofia from Heathrow on Sunday 29th Sept morning and plan to get to the top of Vihren by the following weekend. I'll be taking a backpack and will stay in mountain hostels and refuges, where i can look forward to ice-cold showers, it's all character building. I'll try and take in the tricky north face ascent/descent, but I'll take a view on that from the local mountain experts and weather conditions...
So come on ! Roll up ! Roll up ! lets see some money go in the tin ! The target is a very modest £150, so please help me to hit it
