Cut or don't cut?

James MorrisonCutting hair for charity is not a new idea, however there are a few things about this sponsored haircut/hairkeep that make it a little different...

The donations to James Morrison's page at www.justgiving.com/haircutforjames will help decide whether his impressive locks go or stay. It's taken him five years to amass these locks and they will all go if the vote goes the right way.

All donors are invited to vote, and the vote with the highest total donation value will win. It's a brilliant use of a fundraising page as it not only encourages people to donate, but to donate generously.

"I swing in between the two — sometimes I think it's time to have it all off and other times I think I don't want it to go," said James who's studying law at Sheffield University and will probably have to say goodbye to his locks before long anyway when he begins vocational training.

All sponsorship money is going to the Great Ormond Street Hospital Children's Charity. James had his leg lengthened there as a child and knows first hand how important the little extras are when you're a child in hospital. As he says, "Being in hospital is rubbish, but toys, computers and good people make it a little better."

"I have a personal connection to the charity - the staff at Great Ormond Street Hospital looked after me very well throughout a great deal of my childhood.  They sorted my legs so I could do all the silly things that I do to hurt myself all on my own.  I will be forever indebted to them so it would be great if you could help me give a little something in return."

So if you'd like to help the Great Ormond Street Hospital Children's Charity, and add your voice to the Cut or Don't Cut brigades, then click here: www.justgiving.com/haircutforjames.

If you feel inspired by James, you can set up your own fundraising page to raise money with any sort of challenge you choose, for over 1,000 charities featured on Justgiving. Just click here.

Writing a personal message and using a good photo — or several — helps encourage friends and colleagues to get into the spirit and donate generously too.
