Fundraiser of the month, January 2005

Here at Justgiving, we have the privilege of helping people raise funds for great causes and organisations. We come across people of all backgrounds, with all levels of computer skill, who raise money quickly and easily with our online tools.

This is where we share some of these great Online Fundraising Pages, and personal accomplishments, with the world!

Our current Fundraiser of the Month is not one person but two brave people - Sarah Edmondson and Ben Shaw - who are currently driving a 20-year-old Volvo from Plymouth to west Africa as part of the Plymouth-Dakar Challenge 2005.

Sarah and Ben are keeping friends, family and sponsors up to date on their own website at www.teamhighlandbling.co.uk and while email updates have temporarily ceased as they cross the Sahara desert, you can still get a great idea of their adventures from this site.

The Challenge will be a true test of endurance and skill, on top of which Sarah and Ben are well on their way to raising an impressive £10,000 for the British Red Cross using a Justgiving fundraising page. The charity is part of the worldwide Red Cross and Red Crescent movement, which is at the forefront of relief efforts for the hundreds of thousands of people affected by the December 26th Tsunami in Asia.

We've chosen Sarah and Ben this month because they're a great example of how anyone can use a Justgiving fundraising page - for absolutely any type of activity. Their online diary is an example of how you can keep people involved in your event and continue to collect funds, even when you're thousands of miles away in the middle of a desert.

But if driving 4,000 miles in an an old banger is not quite your cup of tea either, you can still use our fundraising pages to raise funds for your favourite charity. Check our charity guide to see if your charity is already a member of Justgiving and if not, you can nominate them here. We'll tell them you want to raise money for them and if they join us, you can create a page and become another of our fundraising superstars!
