Fundraiser of the month, August 2005
Keith, Derek and Mick are now through the stubbly stage as their hair begins to grow back and are beginning to get used to looking at themselves in the mirror.
What started as a drunken suggestion turned into ugly reality when three colleagues from software company Craneware in Livingston enthusiastically shaved their heads last week.
”One of the guys looked great, but the other two looked fat and bald,” said Keith. “My wife didn’t recognise me at the airport and walked straight past me. We’ve tried goatees and all sorts of things to make it look better but we still just look fat and bald.”
A very good friend had had surgery for breast cancer and was upset at the prospect of losing her hair through chemotherapy, which led the three to say they would all do the same.
So they didn’t chicken out, they begain raising money for Cancer Research and are delighted with the £5,500 they’ve collected so far. They are still collecting money – you can show your support for their effort by sponsoring them here.
Keith said the online fundraising page helped cut down on huge amounts of time and the automatic Gift Aid collection was a real bonus. “It was so easy to do – I’d recommend anyone that’s doing a charity event should create a page.”
If you'd like to follow Keith's example and raise
money for a cause you care about, you can create
a fundraising page straight away! Or, you can check
our charity guide to see if your charity is already a member of Justgiving
and if not, you
can nominate them here. We'll tell them you want to raise money for
them and if they join us, you can create a page and become another of
our fundraising superstars!
