Running round the world for cancer

Findlay
Young crossed the finish line of the Great North Run on Sunday
bringing to a close an incredible series of 24 half marathon runs in
24 days, right round the globe.
So far he has raised an impressive £32,000 for Cancer Research UK but
wants to raise far more to help scientists in their search for cures
and treatments for this deadly disease. You can show him your support
for his amazing journey by sponsoring him here.
Findlay has contended with security alerts, disrupted flights, constant
jet lag, lack of sleep, having to run round an airport car park in Dallas,
loneliness and exhaustion to complete his dream of running round the
world.
His run at Uluru, or Ayers Rock in Australia, was
an unforgettable experience. "I'm smiling so much it was a dream
run - you just do not get better than this...such beauty, tranquility
and general wonderfulness," he said in his blog.
"The main focus in my mind always has been and
needs to be on ensuring that together we beat cancer. Over the next few
years Cancer Research UK and all the other organisations involved in
fighting cancer will make a difference and no one will doubt that they
will one day be able to make huge announcements about better and better
treatments and eventually cures."
Findlay was given the all clear from cancer in September 2003 but it
returned and after having an operation to remove his thyroid he was given
the all clear again in June 2005.
"Cancer is no longer part of me but running is," he says, justifiably
so after running 13 miles in Brazil, USA, New Zealand, Australia, Singapore,
India, Dubai and across Europe.
Find out all about his experience on his website www.greatworldrun.com and
