Fundraiser of the month, June 2006
Walking in memory of Tim
"Our son, Tim, like many 23 year-olds,
dreamed of going to Germany to support England in the World Cup
Finals. It helped to sustain him during the long months of chemotherapy. Sadly,
he will never make that trip — he died of leukaemia in December 2005,"
says John Reeve.
In memory of Tim and to raise funds for research
and clinical trials into blood cancers, John decided that he would
walk all the way to the World Cup, aiming to reach Frankfurt in time
for England's opening match on June 10th.
You can sponsor John here at: http://www.justgiving.com/walkingtotheworldcup.
With the company of his wife Sandra, son Dan and various friends and
family members, John is well on his way to Frankfurt now.
The walk will draw attention to the fact that leukaemia and other blood
cancers are the most common cause of cancer death in young adults in
the UK and that only 30-40% of young adults survive long term.
"Like all young adults, Tim faced a future
which was full of opportunities. He
had just started at university, was a keen sportsman and was passionate
about football. He played from the age of eight until he was too ill
to continue and was a loyal supporter of Leeds United and England."
"During 2005, when he still hoped for a cure,
two of his dreams were to see Leeds back in the top flight and to go
to the World Cup Finals," says John.
Your support by sponsoring the walk will mean more young adults with
blood cancers will be able to go on and make their dreams come true.
