On May 1st 2011, we lost our beloved, beautiful daughter Georgina Alice. She was "born sleeping" (stillborn) at the Rosie Maternity Hospital at Addenbrookes in Cambridge.
The profound shock of the previous day when we were told "I'm so sorry" by the Consultant when they were unable to find a heartbeat when we should have been starting the delivery of our baby is something that is still hard to comprehend. During a scan on 28th April, all had been well with Georgina. The realisation of our loss and that we would have to endure a labour without a happy ending was unbearable.
However the care and compassion with which we were both treated over the coming hours and days and the amazing support we received helped us both endure this horrendous time. We were gently guided through meeting our daughter; this creating memories that will stay with us both forever, and for which we shall forever be grateful.
The Rosie Hospital has continued to help us in our bereavement taking care of many of the awful practical steps that have to be taken, and their compassionate and wise counsel have helped us begin the long road that is the grieving process.
We feel privileged to have the excellent Rosie Hospital on our doorstep; and in Georgina's memory we would love our family and friends to support the Rosie Campaign as they seek to extend and further improve their services. One area that they are seeking to develop is the provision of a bereavement suite on or near the Delivery ward. Whilst the care we received was first-class; the Staff at Rosie clearly believe that this can be improved still further. It would be a wonderful legacy for Georgina if we can help this and other development projects at Rosie as they seek to expand and develop into a world-leading women's health and maternity facility.
