So, as of 30 August, I am doing the Great North Run.  This came as a bit of a shock to me.  I don’t run.  I don’t really exercise.  To be honest, I don’t know why I said ‘yes’ to it, but I did.  Apparently it’s 13.2 miles long, a distance I have no comprehension of, and, at this point in time, is less than 13 days away, a time which I unfortunately do have a comprehension of.

So basically I’m going to increase my current running distance of 3 miles to that of 13.2 miles in less than 13 days.  Impossible?  Most probably.

What isn’t impossible (see what I did there) is that I can hopefully raise some money for the British Thyroid Foundation in the very short space of time until the event.  The BTF is a patient-led charitable organization that, along with other things, provides support and information to people suffering from thyroid disorders and funds research into such disorders.  I know from experiences within my own family that thyroid conditions can have a serious effect on daily life and in extreme cases be fatal.  Please visit the BTF website for more information: http://www.btf-thyroid.org/

I can’t promise that I will be able to do an adequate time or that I won’t perish whilst undertaking this task. So please, if not just for the good work carried out by the BTF, give money in honour of my probable death.  It’s what I would have wanted!
