I've been in training now for this ride for about 3 months. Have clocked up nearly 800 miles on the bike, with the highest being in early September, when completed over 100 miles including a hill work session, some rides in to Shenfield Station and one 60 mile ride doing laps round Hanningfield reservior. Have now started to tail down the training in preparation for the day. Over the months have only come off twice, once broke my thumb and once two weeks ago when someone helpfully opened a car door in my face. Have mostly been training with Jeff Gilbert, who had his own close inspection of some tarmac three weeks ago.
I'm raising money for Cherish a Child, as it's just doing something so worthwhile. The Cherish children's village is being built near the shores of lake Uganda. It's now providing housing, care and schooling for 40 children who are HIV positive. The funds will go towards looking after the kids, with nothing in it for me and just a 5% charge from Justgiving website.
