i am running the london marathon to raise money for epilepsy society.

On august 5th 2011 my wife and I welcomed our little boy Finley Fraser George into the world. Finley was a big, healthy, baby boy, but 12 hours later everything changed for him and our family.

As my wife was holding Finley in hospital she noticed he was having a twitchy leg...then all of a sudden he stopped breathing and turned blue! We didnt have a cluewhat had happened or what was happening.He was rushed away from us, and a little later we were told that Finley had had two seizures resulting in him needing help with his breathing and medication to stop the seizures.

As days turned to weeks, we were still in hospital, and Finley was still having seizures, sometimes 200 plus a day. He was assisted with his breathing on numerous accasions, as the seizures caused him to stop breathing. He was on a cocktail of medication to try and stop the seizures, he'd already been used as a pin cushion, but still the dr's were no wiser with his diagnosis.

At 6 weeks old, we were transfered to addenbrooks for some specialist help. We were told here that due to the nature of the seizures Finley may not make it to a year old if his these continue the way they are they may not allow him to develop.

Eventually, with no real diagnosis, and after test after test, we were allowed home. There was no answer to Finley, and many people had tried to offer there reasoning to this to us over our weeks in hospital.

Without going into the details of our ups and downs, we are pleased that Finley is a normal 2 year old boy. Always dirty, very cheeky, and most of all, smilling!

Epilepsy society helped us understand the medication and what dr's were saying when we had no real idea. This was an emotional and testing time for us, and without there help we may have struggled even more. We still have a long way to go with Finley, including taking him off his medication as he's now been seizure free for 2 years, and yet there still is no diagnosis to why all this happend.

So, i'm running the marathon to support something that helped me at a low time. If Finley can come out smilling after all he's been through, then i'm sure I can run 26.2 miles and not complain!!!
