Thanks for taking the time to visit my JustGiving page.
2011 is my 50th year on this planet. I will reach the ripe old age of 50 on 1st January 2012 (you are right I don't look that old). As a way of giving thanks for good health, good family, good friends etc, I wanted to commemorate this by setting myself a charity challenge for the year. I, (and hopefully some friends with me) set about doing several daft and energetic things during 2011 (details below).
I want to donate the money to the Hospice for several reasons, but the main one is that nearly all of us have known and loved someone who has been faced with cancer, and know someone who has benefitted from the care of their local Hospice. Trinity House is my local Hospice and I know several people who have been looked after by their fantastic staff. I have also lost close relatives to cancer so feel that this is the best choice for me.
Details of Events Completed
Wow. What a year. we finished off with a race night and end of year do on 9th December, brilliantly run by Tom Scoffham from gemini events. 4 races were run, with the winners going into a final run off, and the another 4 horses being auctioned. Honky's horse - owned by my good mate Graham Holmes was the winner. we raised over £700 and it looks like we might get past the ten grand amount. We also judged the Movember moustaches, with Rob Martin pipping me to the post, with his spectacular effort
6th and 7th events done - several of us have grown ridiculous facial hair as part of Movember. Also on 4th December several hardy fools did the Santa Dash down Blackpool Promenade. This involved dressing up as Santa and 'dashing' from the Sandcastle to Central Pier and back in gale force winds.
5th event done - What a fantastic day. The Golf event in memory of my brother on 3rd August was fabulous, with over 70 golfers taking part. The aptly named Bandidos won the Team Event, with Craig Read winning the individual award with a gross 73. Over £1000 raised at this event. Thanks to loads of people.
4th event done - Phew. 10 of us from the Devvy (Me, Dave Shaw, Brian Ward, Dave Neville, Duncan Whitehead, Rob Martin, Rob Hughes, Adam Neil, Bob Hutchinson and Mark Thompson), plus Adrian Pailing & Chris on tandem, Paul Burrows, Trish and Jackie from DWP, all completed the Manchester to Blackpool 61.5 mile trip on 10th July. Times between 4.5 hours and a bit more were recorded but all finished the gruelling up and down course. Tender bits now being tended to.
3rd event- golf day at Fishwick - arranged by Nigel Halsall and Phyllis Close. Massive thanks to them and all who played. Raised in excess of £1400. I got a soaking when I fell into the pond - see picture.
2nd event now complete - fun run done in 52:30. Many thanks to Wardy, Connor, Woz, Dave Shaw, Steve Whittaker and Nigel Yates who also ran for the cause
1st event now complete.....head shave and waxing at Devonshire Arms on 25th Feb - on target to raise about £1500. I have added some pictures. More to come.
So please dig deep and donate now.
Many Thanks
Steve
