Thank you for looking on Steve and Melinda's page. We thought we'd try to do a bit for The Cavendish Centre, a small but important charity, based near the centre of Sheffield, which offers palliative care and support for people with cancer. You can read about them at www.cavcare.org.uk

The Cavendish Centre aims to improve the quality of life for people suffering from cancer and the equally challenging treatments for the disease. The Cavendish Centre delivers it services in conjunction with partners inside the NHS and outside

Roy Finch, our neighbour, has served on the trustee board of the Cavendish Centre for a number of years, latterly as vice President; and Melinda and I would like to thank him for this service.

Preliminary estimate is about £300 raised!! I think we are quite pleased at this, thanks largely to Melinda's efforts

Training Blog

May 21st: Well, Steve can at least walk normally now, but has not run yet, and Melinda is training for her next event, "Race for Life" at the end of May, we've counted up the very generous donations, and exceeded the target...over £500!! Thanks to all!!

Sunday 25th April: Melinda gets up 15 mins early to hit an "early" timetable set by her partner, Claire, and arrives EARLY. This is unheard of...There are 5000 runners; Melinda achieves a really strong 2:18 (gun)....we think a few minutes less on the timer. I am so proud of her. Ross was less than a minute behind Melinda. And what of me....well I can't run a step at the moment, but I managed to get round the route on my bike and get a few photos!

Saturday 24th April: Melinda gets her kit into order...shoes....new socks...new shorts...new bum bag....emergency Ibuprofen....isotonic drink.......jelly babies....yes JELLY BABIES......there is apparently no better istant carb hit than jelly babies. Melinda taper trains by fundraising on the street...she is a natural! Steve prepares chicken penne arabiatta carbo load

Friday 23rd April: Ross officially takes Steve's place. His total training is 7 miles....Steve hobbling a little better. Roy delivers the Cavendish T shirts

Thursday 22nd April: Ross Prodger volunteers to step in for Steve, who is still struggling to walk

Those of you who know us will know that 2010 has been challenging for us for a number of reasons, not the most auspicious start for our running campaign! As you will see, it didn't quite go to plan, but maybe was the better for it...

Disaster strikes!! Wed 21st April...Melinda goes for a successful 10 mile run betond Forge Dam. Her last run before the event. Steve goes to the gym, and suffers an acute calf tear....Melinda has to rescue him, and he finds on Thursday that he can barely walk. Such a shame, as he was actually looking forwards to the run after Sunday's success.

Steve might be able to pass on his place to someone else, and hopefully he will be mobile enough able to support Melinda!

The last chance weekend....a fabulous run around Derwent Howden reservoirs gets Melinda over 10 miles at last, and Steve over 12 miles. We think we can do it!!

Easter....OK, time for some harder work. 2 runs in 2 days, and Steve manages over 12km through Caerphilly, Melinda manages 8km and 6km....

March....It's time for Steve to start running, but not a lot is happening. He tries the Forge Dam route, he enjoys the scenery, but not the occasion.

February.....Steve's 51st birthday was greeted with a bit of a cold which numbed his enthusiasm even more. There has been more than a touch of underlying complacency here!! And not a little snow and frost, of course.

Melinda, meanwhile, has been gradually rising to the challenge. She tackles her first 12km run to Forge Dam, as well as a few runs with friends.

Jan 21st: Entered the run and started this page, Thought about training for the run. Decided to put it off. This feeling stayed for a while.....
