My story

On 21 June 2012 six Stewarts Law employees and partners will join The Stoke Mandeville Team in their attempt to complete the 520 km route from Hampton Court to the Eiffel Tower.  The aim is to average 14-15 mph (23kph) and to cover 110 miles a day over three days.

The Stoke Mandeville Team is a 20 strong peloton including five ex-patients who will be using handcycles, one of which is Daniel Turnbull, a partner at Stewarts Law.  They will be the first hand cycling team to complete this incredible feat with HotChillee.

The London to Paris (L2P) ride is recognised as one of the world’s most exciting cycle events open to the public and is about as close to the Tour de France experience as an amateur cyclist can get.  The Daily Telegraph listed the L2P within the top 25 mass participation events alongside the London and New York marathons and listed it in the top 10 international endurance events.

The event is distinguished by having rolling road closures throughout France along the way to the Eiffel Tower.  There are only two cycling events that are granted road closures in the centre of the French capital; the other is the Tour de France.

The Jimmy Savile Stoke Mandeville Hospital Trust has been nominated as one of the charities of the event and the team will be aiming to raise funds for much needed specialist sport therapy facilities to assist with the rehabilitation of patients with spinal cord injury.

Given that the Stoke Mandeville Hospital was the birthplace of the Paralympics it is fitting that such a challenge should take place in the year that the Olympic and Paralympic games take place in London.  The event will be filmed by Euro Sports and shown as a prelude to their coverage of the Tour de France 2012.

Stewarts Law is proud and excited to be part of this venture and it will be hoped very much that you would be able to join us in supporting this gruelling endeavour.
