Many thanks for visiting my sponsorship page.
On the 6 October 2010 I plan to sleep out for one night in Glasgow to help raise money for Positive Action in Housing’s Hardship Fund which provides money for food, shelter and practical resources for destitute asylum seekers.
Over the years Positive Action in Housing’s destitution service have assisted hundreds of asylum seekers who have been made destitute after the refusal of their initial asylum claim and often during other intervals. The money raised from my sponsored sleep out will have a huge impact on the service that PAiH delivers and on the help and support than can be provided to people experiencing destitution.
People are often left destitute due to bureaucratic reasons such as waiting for their paperwork and often this means that the most vulnerable in our society are left to sleep rough on the streets. Often asylum seekers experiencing destitution have had to leave their home country after escaping from fear of persecution, various human right abuses or fear for their life. These are often people who have had careers, homes and families back home and for whatever reason have had to leave everything behind. Once in the UK they experience an uphill struggle to be allowed to remain in this country and are often subject to a great deal of scrutiny and scapegoating within the mainstream media and within society.
With your help I want to raise £4,000 to help towards the Hardship Fund at Positive Action in Housing which I know will have a huge impact on the support that can be given to people suffering from destitution.
