Earlier this year something deeply sad happened in . Hundreds of innocent men, women and worst of all children were killed as a result of war. Daily on our televisions we were seeing tens of children and babies being pulled out of rubble. Innocent souls were being turned into dust. We, the British public, felt the pain the people of were suffering. We went on countless marches and we carried out endless fundraising and charity events. Although the war in has stopped, the people still suffer and will do for a long time to come. I wanted to bring your attention to one of the incidents that particularly touched my heart. It is a story of a beautiful orphanage and school that once stood high in and now is nothing but a pile of bricks and dust. This orphanage, Darul Fadilah (Benevolent Home), housed 500 orphans providing them with food, shelter, education and most importantly security. Most of these children, girls and boys, were as young as 4 years old. On 12 January 2009, the orphanage was bombed by missiles. A reign of heavy artillery bombarded the orphanage destroying everything, including the children. In total, a shocking 7 missiles were launched at the orphanage - 7!! So, even if there was any hope of survival after the 1st, 2nd even 3rd missile, the army made sure that hope was non existent by the 4th, 5th, 6th and 7th. Today many charities, including Red Cross, Oxfam and Islamic Relief, under the umbrella of the Disasters Emergency Committee (DEC), Amos Trust lead by Reverend Garth Hewitt etc are working effortlessly to raise money and rebuild . One charity that, I am appealing to you on behalf of is Islamic Help who have organised a project to re-build the Benevolent Home for which their minimum target is £2 million. They have entered phase 2 of the project and are desperate to complete it as soon as possible so the traumatised, orphaned children can have a home. All it needs is 2 million of us to donate just £1 each, or as much as you can to rebuild the Benevolent Home bigger, better and stronger. As people of England I am urging you to look at the red cross of St George that represents the flag of England as an example of his bravery in defence of the poor and defenceless and remember that not only was he the Patron Saint of England but also the Patron Saint of Palestine. So please dig deep and make this dream come true for the children of : ))
