So just a very short time ago, there we were in the humid heat of 40 plus degrees C in Beijing, cycling through busy city roads, vunerable as any on a bicycle seemingly invisible to cars!
Then after a few days and some good distance, we were out into the countryside and up and down the mountain passes -cycling mile/kilometer after mile/kilometer. Cycling through beautiful landscapes, meeting friendly and kind local people - avoiding the occassional oncoming trucks!!!! Only on the last day did we experience what cycling in rain REALLY is like, China- style but we did it singing nevertheless.
So Theresa and I did it:) Surviving the heat, humidity, the distance, and as vegetarians, the deficit between calories expended (between 5,000 to 7,000 a day) and those replaced (between 500 and 1,000 calories) - Thank goodness for bananas and organic energy bars!
But please keep those donations coming in, there is still a way to go to meet the target we set for ourselves to raise for the charity and this is all we ask of you to help us raise money to help fund this valuable work.
For 5 days in September 2010, Susie Hewson and her sister Theresa White, embarked on their second Natracare Sisters in partnership for change event by taking part in the Women for Women Cycle challenge in China.
We are both doing this to help the charity raise at least £200,000 to improve the health of women and babies by training women scientists and clinicians.
This time it's China and 450kms of cycling in whatever the weather or the terrain throws at us and yes, we will do it singing!
After the desert challenge of Jordan in 2009, we know what we are in for - another tough, physical challenge; this is why we need your continuing support! check out the video footage on the natracare Facebook page for more!
The cycle challenge will require a huge amount of personal time sacrifice in order for us to train sufficiently for this cycle trek. Again we are devoting our annual leave to the challenge, cycling 450 kilometres (281 miles) through the Beijing region countryside, alongside rivers and through steep gorges (with its 8 mile uphill cycle), even alongside the Great Wall.
Make as large or small a donation as you like, and be sure that in return, Theresa and I will sing a dedication song for you - for at least a kilometre of our cycle as we have trouble with the words usually AS WELL AS HUGE thanks from the Women for Women Charity.
