Last year my brother, Kieran, was a patient at the Heart of Kent Hospice near Maidstone for eight months before he died from cancer in November. During this time he was looked after by a wonderful team of doctors, nurses and volunteers with dedication and love. They also provided much support to us as a family
The Heart of Kent Hospice provides free of charge care to those who need it in Maidstone and the surrounding area, as well as parts of Tonbridge and Malling. This year the Hospice needs to raise almost £3 million to continue to provide its free range of services to patients and their families, and only 29% of this figure is Government funded, so they rely very heavily on fundraising. At any one time the Hospice cares for 12 in-patients and another 280 in the community. In Kieran's memory, Dave and I are going to attempt to cycle from London to Paris - 303 miles over four days - leaving on Wednesday 9 September and hopefully arriving at the Eiffel Tower on Saturday 12 September.
