Update 15.02.10

This page is no longer accepting donations

Following medical advice I have made the decision to withdraw from the 2010 London Marathon.

I currently have a painful injury to the iliotibial band in my left leg, very similar to the injury I had before Christmas. My physio advises me that even if the current injury resolves itself in the next couple of weeks and I manage to get back on track with training the likelihood is that the same injury could recur yet again before 25 April, and therefore, to prevent the possibility of causing any permanent damage to my leg I have accepted that it isn't sensible for me to carry on training for the London Marathon. So, unfortunately, I'm joining the 12,500 others forced to withdraw from the Marathon each year.

I'm extremely upset about having to make this decision. For the past 4 months I've put a huge commitment into my training, getting up at 5.30am on many mornings to run before work in the freezing cold, wet and sometimes snowy weather we've had recently. I've also spent large chunks of every weekend running. I had reached 12 mile runs on my training plan, almost a Half marathon!!!

I also feel that I am letting my supporters, my family, The PSP Association and, most importantly, my dad down.

If you'd like the donation you made to The PSP Association in support of my run returned to you please contact me at suzanne@liamhough.myzen.co.uk and let me know whether you would like me to give you the cash when I next see you or let me have an address where I can send a cheque to.

Thanks again for your support, I'm so sorry it had to end like this.

Following several years of mis-diagnosis my dad was finally diagnosed with PSP and CBD in October 2008. The progression of these horrendous diseases was rapid and my dad died on 8 October 2009.

PSP (Progressive Supranuclear Palsy) robs people of their ability to talk, walk, eat, drink and see. Patients become trapped in their own bodies unable to communicate, whilst remaining mentally alert.

CBD (Cortico Basal Degeneration) is frequently misdiagnosed, most commonly as stroke or brain tumour because it initially affects one side of the body before progressively spreading to affect the other side.

The causes of PSP and CBD are unknown. There is currently no treatment and no cure for either PSP or CBD.

Thank you for your support

xxxSuzanne
