Story
Sylvia and Noel are both running the Virgin London Marathon. This will be Sylvia's second marathon whilst Noel has done a few more. Running a marathon is not easy - no matter how many you've done before. It's also about the journey. Sylvia will be running over 550 miles in training and Noel probably a few more. That said, we're both intending to have a grand day out while we raise lots of money for the Bedford Hospitals Charity.
The Bedford Hospitals Charity was founded in 1988 by a group of local people, initially to raise money to refurbish the dilapidated and antiquated Student Nurse Home at Bedford Hospital South Wing. Since then it has raised over £6½ million for a number of projects. The largest was £2.5 million raised in the Primrose Appeal to build a new Oncology Unit, and the most recent has been £400,000 towards state of the art cancer screening equipment in the Endoscopy Department.
The current focus of the Hospitals Charity is the Duckling Appeal which aims to raise £200,000 to upgrade parts of the Maternity Department and create a new Midwifery-led Unit within the Cygnet Wing at Bedford Hospital.
The key to the Charity's success has been its ability to work closely with the local community and the hospital itself.
