As most of you all know by now me, my dad Keith Renew and his friend Steve Gregory are doing the Kilimanjaro Climb in September.
After months of training we will be setting off from London on the long flight to Tanzania on 24th September. The route we are taking is the Shira Route which is a full 7 day climb seeing us approach Kilimanjaro from the west.
We have decided to do the climb on behalf of the Chigwell Riding Trust which is a local charity for us.
Chigwell Riding Trust was the first riding centre for people with special needs in the world. It has been established in Chigwell for forty five years. Riding instruction is given to people of all ages and abilities. The riding centre has approximately 160 riders each week.
As one of the leading specialised riding centre in the country Chigwell Riding Trust not only benefits people with special needs but also the entire community, giving opportunities for volunteering, school participation and practical experience for children and adults working with people and animals.
An organization such as this is wholly dependant on the good will of the community. Without it Chigwell Riding Trust would not be here.
To offer the wonderful facilities and high standard of riding that they do involves a tremendous expense. Chigwell Riding Trust receives no state aid whatsoever and all funds have to be raised by themselves. Chigwell Riding Trust do not employ any professional paid fundraisers, staff numbers are kept to an absolute minimum and voluntary help is used wherever possible.
