In August 2010 I was contacted by a company I used to work for in South Africa. I was owed a substantial amount of money thanks to a change in the law. It was a windfall of note!

I decided to donate a portion of that money to charity, but I didn't want to just give it to an organisation where the money would fall into a pool. I wanted to see it working, to see it making a difference immediately. 

I gave that money to my husband as he was heading out to Simakakata in Zambia where LearnAsOne, his charity of choice, was helping a local community to build a school. "Buy shoes, clothes, books, anything that can make an immediate difference," I said.

What happened next was amazing. A strange and wonderful confluence of events resulted in my money starting up a nursery school. A place where young children could start the learning process so that when school began they didn't feel overwhelmed and confused. So many of these children don't even know how to hold a pencil when they start school - imagine the difference a nursery with a trained teacher could make?

This page is dedicated to raising money for this nursery and school. To making sure that these children, who walk miles and miles in bare feet to get to school, have an amazing place to go and learn.
