My name is Tara Hoyos-Martinez and I have been fortunate enough to be chosen as a finalist for this year’s Miss Universe GB pageant. It is one of the biggest pageants of its kind, and the winner will go on to represent Great Britain on the world stage at Donald Trump's international Miss Universe. I am also currently raising money for The Joshua Foundation (TJF), a charity which focuses on providing amazing experiences and holidays for children, aged between birth and 19, that have been diagnosed with terminal cancer.
The pageant has chosen this charity for the last 2 years and I am extremely grateful that I have been given this opportunity to support them, as I strongly believe in their work and it is so clear that everything raised is put to such good use; making these children's short lives as fun and fulfilled as possible for them and their families.
The Joshua Foundation (TJF) is a Cardiff based national charity that was created on September 27th 1998 with a 5k fun run/walk that raised over £16,000 and on January 17th, 1999, a huge party at Planet Hollywood, London, saw the first gathering of children from oncology units across the UK and was the beginning of TJF experiences.
TJF organise individual holidays and experiences as well as group gatherings such as their annual trip to Lapland, the annual Halloween party, Breakfast with Santa and the Easter Bunny and many other events.
The charity takes its name from Joshua Cornelius, from Caerphilly, South Wales, who was diagnosed with Desmoplastic Round Cell Tumour of the abdomen, a terminal cancer, in December 1996 and who died on December 4th 1998, aged 7. After his diagnosis, Joshua, had to undergo intensive and aggressive chemotherapy. To offset this in his 23 months of treatment, he travelled the world - California, New York, Florida, Lapland, Israel and 4 trips to Euro Disney - living life to the full. An experience the Joshua Foundation endeavours to repeat for others.
From now on until the final in May, I will be hosting different fundraising events and taking part in various other activities to raise awareness of both the charity and the pageant, so I am asking you to please donate generously and keep supporting me as you all have so far! Keep checking the page for updates :)
Lots of love and kisses xx Tara
