Thanks for taking the time to visit my JustGiving page.
What triggered this Idea?
As a part of one of these CSR initiatives organized through office i visited an 'AIDS affected children' relief home. I came across a lot of innocent souls who got this deadly virus as they were born through infected mothers. Amongst these children i met a very sweet girl, her name is Payal. It was very disheartening to know that the villagers tried to kill Payal as they feared the virus spreading by her touching them or by her living with them.
Though you and i know that AIDS is not spread by touching an affected person, but people living in the very remote spaces in India still have little knowledge what so ever. With almost no channel of communication between the world of today and these villages people here have gone miles away from development. These villages have been exploited by people who promise to get these children or their mothers jobs and instead bring them to cities and force them into begging and prostitution. This is not the India we dream of as we celebrate our 61st Republic Day on the 26th of January 2010.
Where do we go from here
I have a motto "Work Builds and Charity Destroys" i can very well donate Rs. 1,00,000 today that might be used to provide shelter and aid to the affected but there is a famous saying 'Give a fish to a man; he has food for a day. Teach a man to fish; he learns a skill for life' so a better approach than charity would be adopting a child or a mother or a blind. Did you know that by paying Rs 8000 one can sponsor a child's 2 years of education which entitles one to receiving 2 reports biannually on the progress the child is making OR by paying as little as Rs 3000 you can sponsor 6 months of training course for a blind that secures them a job for a life time.
Why should i contribute
You and i are very fortunate to have been successful in life, but we should not forget that people in these remote regions have not been as lucky as us. Just by contributing a little amount from our pocket we can give some one an opportunity for a better life! I think it does not matter what their race, caste and color is your contribution counts as a contribution towards mankind a contribution for humanity.
What am i doing
I am involving you to help me help CINI (Child In Need India) help mothers and children in India break free from the cycle of poverty.
How am i doing this
I am trekking to the Everest Base Camp, this 170 KM challenging trek requires 8-10 hours of trekking day over day every day for 16 days taking me to the height of over 18,000 feet. Had i said, i am fund raising and had asked you to contribute you might not have contributed, but if i say i am taking this painful yet adventurous journey and asking you to contribute i think the chances of you contributing are higher. All the money i raise by doing this journey goes to the CINI foundation.
