British 10K London Run 2009 · 12 July 2009 ·

A-CET is a small dynamic UK charity supporting vulnerable orphans & disabled youngsters through educational scholarships & targeted community school projects. Overseas it works through local charities run by ex-students. A-CET has low overheads and is run by experienced professional volunteers.

Story

After our debut runs last year, we have bought way too much lycra to sit at home so we are now attempting our first 10km race where the pressure is really on as it is about something bigger than just running a race. We are running the British 10km run for the African Children’s Educational Trust so please sponsor us to support A-CET.

A-CET is a small charity organisation focused in the education of African children particularly in Ethiopia. Ethiopia is one of Africa's poorest states and two-thirds of its population is illiterate.

More than 90% of the money raised goes directly to projects and students.

How A-CET uses the money to make a difference:

- £500 will buy 25 local desks for 50 - 75 students who currently may well be sitting on stones
- £6,000 will build a classroom for 50+ students
- £11,000 is needed for Library/Activity Room
- £6,000 for Staff Room & £6,000  for Store (all in one block)
- £5,000 will build deep trench latrine for eight
- Schools also need other items like blackboards, notice boards, shelves, tables and chairs

I (Natasha) have seen first-hand how this charity can make a difference to someone’s life. My friend Sammy received a scholarship from A-CET during his undergraduate and graduate studies and is now studying a PhD (on malaria) at the Sanger Institute and Cambridge University funded by the Wellcome Trust.

Please sponsor us to support this great charity that continues to support children and young people to get the education they deserve.
