THE PROJECT 65 FORCES MARCH

A highly challenging 130 mile march from Ilfracombe, North Devon to Bulford Camp, Wiltshire

Beginning on Thursday 27th May 2010 the march will consist of five stages, each approximately twenty five miles with four overnight stops. The event finishes on Monday 31st May 2010. The course is extremely beautiful but very challenging with undulating terrain throughout.

Teams will compete against each other on each daily stage with points being awarded to the first ten teams. The leading team will have the honour of wearing the leading team jersey for the following day's stage.

The highest points scoring team after day five will be the overall winner!

We are entering this event as a team to try and raise as much funds for wounded armed forces personnel as possible. The funds raised by Project 65 will go to the following charities.

  • The Royal British Legion
  • BLESMA
  • St Dunstan’s
  • RAF Benevolent Fund
  • Army Benevolent Fund
  • Help for Heroes

What makes our team unique is that other than me (Mark) none of the team has ever done any sort of distance running in their lives, not even a marathon!

    Team Update:

  • 17th Nov - Training has been going really well and we hit a milestone on Sunday by completing our first half marathon distance. It was a challenge we were all a little anxious about but we kept each other going and Mark's supply of Shot Blocks kept our energy levels up. Completing this distance has given us all a boost and we are looking to enter the Liverpool Half Marathon next March to give us some race experience. We have had some pretty tough mid-week interval training sessions which always seem harder with the dark nights but we are improving consistantly on our normal mid-week run times. The weather hasn't been too bad yet but one particular Sunday we were almost blown off our feet and got a good sand-blasting while running along by the beach. It's on days like this we get the strangest looks from people we pass! We are all looking forward to our Christmas Team night out next month but have got the small challenge of running 20 miles before we can enjoy a well deserved night out! San

15th Sept - We have now completed the first 6 weeks of training and finished it off with a leisurely stroll(!) up Snowdon on Sunday. The weather was glorious and the views amazing, we had such a fab day which was finished off with some well deserved fish and chips on the way home - part of the training diet of course. The training is going really well, we are lucky enough to live on the coast and our route takes us along the beach looking out across the Mersey, sunset time is my favourite as the views are stunning which helps take your mind off the running! We have all pleasantly surprised ourselves with our progress and the improvement in our fitness is notable already. The commitment of the team is quite overwhelming and the encouragement everyone gives each other keeps us all going and I know we'll need plenty of that once the nights draw in and the weather turns. So far so good anyway, more to follow.... San

10th Aug - We all started my ten month training programme in the beginning of August, it consists of two, five month training cycles. The first phase of the training has got off to a great start with all of the team members meeting three times a week, the weather has been brilliant and everyone is managing the very well. We are all making the most of it because come January the distances will be much longer and the weather far worse. As well as the weekly training I have planned a few challenges along the way including Snowdon and a "trip" to the Breacon Beacons, Mark
