In the past few years we have met countless number of brave and extremely humbling victims of asbestos related diseases. The vast majority of these victims were illegally exposed to asbestos by their former employers throughout their working life. Mesothelioma is a form of cancer exclusively caused by exposure to asbestos dust. It is a terrible, ravaging condition that affects the lining of the lungs, chest wall or abdomen. The numbers of victims contracting asbestos diseases continues to rise and will continue to do so for many years to come.
I could quote all kinds of figures and statistics to help to give a picture of the number of victims in Merseyside. However, these would not tell the whole story. Nothing can convey the amount of pain and suffering that victims dying of mesothelioma or disabled through asbestosis go through.
MAVSG is a charity that assists these victims wherever help is required - from practical assistance with welfare benefits, to general help and support. Victims and their families receive completely free and confidential service.
