My story
Thanks for taking the time to visit Our JustGiving page. Please read our story:
6 cyclists have got together to raise money for Chernobyl Childrens Lifeline Mid Suffolk Link, taking on a challenge of cycling from London 2 Paris in 3 days during June 2012.
THE EVENT: is a sportive event with rolling road closures all the way finishing on the Champs Elysees under the shadows of the Eiffel Tower. The cyclists will be in groups maintaining average speeds of 26km-28km per hour throughout the day, completing 110 miles per day (330 miles total) and climbing over 6000 metres during the event. The event is now recognised as one of the top 25 endurance events in the world and is favoured by many sporting legends, more about the event can be found at www.londres-paris.com
THE CHARITY: Chernobyl Children's Lifeline was formed over 20 years ago by Victor Mizzi MBE, his work has been tireless in helping the children of Belarus, setting up links throughout the country, successfully bring 1000's of children per year for respite care. Belarus suffered the effects of the Chernobyl disaster having over 75% of the fall out land on their country, the land , the water and water table are still highly contaminated. Children suffer critical illnesses such as thyroid cancers, stomach cancers, brain tumours, other non oncological diseases and much more. The country is very poor, the children live in tough conditions and having the chance to experience a 28 day trip to the UK for respite care is a chance in a lifetime, CCLL - Mid Suffolk Link was formed in 2008 and has itself brought well over 100 children, all funds raised go to the Link and every last penny is spent to help the children, unlike other Charities, we do not pay any contribution to Head office admin fees. The riders who are supporting us have all paid their own entry fees to ensure maximum fundraising for the charity, you can find out more about the charity at www.ccllmidsuffolk.org.uk every penny matters and is appreciated, so if you can donate please do,
The Riders:
Kev Parker - "KP" 3rd L2P ride, has only been riding for 3 years, married to Elizabeth - the Chairperson of the link, " a great event - a hard challenge, but the cameraderie between the riders is fantastic, " I am looking forward to riding with a team of great guys this year.
Richard Skeet - " Citi" the fitness guru in the team and Elizabeth's son. His first L2P, he has only been cycling since October , but youth and fitness will get him to Paris in style... the team may need to slow him down!!
Mike Sinyard, Mike is the CEO of Specialized Bikes, as yet to meet most of the team, its a great honour that he is travelling from the States to ride with us, having spent his life on cycles, a thoroughbred in the team.
Richard Hemington, Richard is MD of Specialized UK, another established cyclist, who will tick along all day, a great asset to the team, with his wealth of cycling knowledge, he will certainly be the person to look too for a few tips on improving riding technique.
Mark Tennent," MT", Mark's second L2P after having been roped in by KP last year, from a mountain biking background he is slowly converting to road cycles, another with cycling legs that work all day, providing it's not windy, cold or wet!!. He has a great sense of humour , the person to keep the team spirits up over the hills of Northern France.
Swen Niclous, Swen was the last rider to join our team, working in the financial industry in London, originally from Germany, he has been riding for some time but never done this type of back-to-back event. He is looking forward to meeting all the guys and training together in the coming months.
