Story

Thanks for taking the time to visit our JustGiving page.

This fundraising is for Birmingham Children's Hospital Star Appeal.

Ellie:

On 24th August 2014 our granddaughter Ellie made her dramatic entrance into the world, this event was to change our lives forever. Ellie was a beautiful baby who gave us so much joy and who taught us about what is truly important in life.

Unfortunately she was born with significant health issues that were eventually diagnosed under the heading of hererotaxy*.

When she was 7 weeks old she had an operation at Birmingham Children's Hospital for biliary atresia. Ellie was readmitted to BCH on 19th Feb 2015 where she died on March 13th 2015.

Ellie's legacy lives on and she has been enrolled onto the Human Genome Project for rare diseases in the hope that some answers can be
found to help others in the future.

Even in death our Ellie just continues to give.

To have a child or grandchild with a rare disease can feel both frightening and isolating. In Ellie's case her care came under four different hospitals and we know just how helpful it would have been to our daughter and son in law to have had one specialised unit that could have dealt with her different and complex health issues. We are proud to support the Star Appeal at Birmingham Children's Hospital in their aim to bring this about.

About the charity

It's bewildering and unsettling for anyone going into hospital but especially for children and that is why we are a fundraising hospital. We raise funds to enhance the experience of our patients by providing state of the art medical equipment and facilities and creating a child-friendly environment.
