My story

Thanks for taking the time to visit our JustGiving page.

I would like to take this opportunity to point out how many of us have been extremely lucky to ski or snowboard for many years the many mountains of the US and Europe....many children who grow up in inner cities do not have the option of this amazing outdoor activities to keep them busy and to help to develop their personalities and skill sets and instead are drawn into crime, drugs and anti social behaviour. The whole of the country and indeed the world was shocked by the behaviour of some of our young people during the riots in the UK that threw society into chaos therefore causing us all to question our priorities.

It is for this reason that the SkiFest and Nubian ambassadors Rema and Roger have chosen to take part in Snow Camp’s Everest challenge again to raise £3000 in order to widen the opportunity for more young people to take part in a sport that has shaped theirs and our lives. Last year, Snow Camp graduated 20 inner city young people as level 1 snow sports instructors!

The challenge is this - 50 participants will try and each cover 150km on skis and on foot in 48 hours, simple right? They will arrive in Morzine on the afternoon of Thursday 26th January 2012 and begin the Challenge that same evening, tackling the first 20 km during the night ski session. The following two days they will ski from dawn till dusk attempting to put a further 125km on the clock - with a night hike on the Friday night completing the final 5km of the challenge.

Snow-Camp is an innovative youth charity that uses a unique combination of skiing, snowboarding and life-skills program to support inner-city young people.  Through snow-sports and life-skills, Snow-Camp program enable young people to grow in confidence and self esteem, develop as individuals and make positive choices for their lives.  Snow-Camp program also enable young people to reflect on the key issues impacting their day to day lives, and help them develop new skills to support their futures – particularly towards careers in the snow-sport industry. Snow-Camp has grown steadily from 2003 and now works with at least 400 young people each year across 12 London Boroughs. Their vision is to expand Snow-Camp to other cities across the UK and benefit many more inner-city young people. See the website for more details www.snow-camp.org.uk .

If you can, please sponsor them for this challenge, and help keep up the great work of snow-camp, any amount, it all helps. Donate by going to the website http://www.justgiving.com/teamgood2go

So please dig deep and donate now.

We thank you in advance for your support

Roger and Rema .
