As those of you that know me will be aware I'm now 66 and it just seemed an appropriate time to achieve one of my lifetime ambitions - to ride a Harley the full length of Route 66.

I've booked the tour and will be travelling the full 2453 miles (I'm aiming to raise £1 for each mile of the journey)  from Chicago to LA in the Autumn of 2010.

I've had such a great life so far that I thought it would be a waste to do something as fun as this and not generate some vital funds for my favourite local charity - Ashgate Hospice.
