As I rapidly approach my next significant birthday, and in a fit of New Year madness, I have signed up for the inaugural Lichfield Half Marathon on 1 May (well should get rid of any Royal Wedding hangover). I thought about running for those charities that I had supported in the past such as BLESMA, BHF, and Cancer Research but felt that they already get considerable funding and started thinking where the donations could make a real difference and so I have chosen Ellie's Haven.
I came across this charity when I played in a charity golf match with the founder, and Ellie's Dad, Nigel, and was impressed by what he is trying to do. Ellie's Haven is funding for a holiday complex where families with children with life limiting illnesses can go and spend some quality time together. As a parent I can well imagine how important this would be.
I am aware that in the past JustGiving has been criticised for taking 5% of donations for 'administrative charges' and my pledge is not only to complete the run but also to make up any of your donations to the full amount (on top of my current donation) so that Ellie's Haven does not lose out by this. It is, after all, a convenient way of collecting the money.
Donating through JustGiving is simple, fast and totally secure. Once you donate, they’ll send your money directly to the charity and make sure Gift Aid is reclaimed on every eligible donation by a UK taxpayer. So it’s the most efficient way to donate - I raise more, whilst saving time and cutting costs for the charity.
So please dig deep and donate now.
Thanks,
Ted
