I am running the 2009 BUPA Great North Run to raise money for HospiceCare. HospiceCare Northumberland was established in 1995 as the North Northumberland Day Hospice, to help meet the needs of local patients and their families. Their services were all developed specifically for the people in this region - and they are all provided free of charge to the people who receive them.
HospiceCare has two centres, one in Berwick and one in Alnwick, where patients find care and support they need in a relaxed and friendly atmosphere. With the change of times they are now providing many services in the home and at local support centres. They provide one of the only Lymphoedema services in the area, a very strong bereavement support, carers support and many other services.
It costs over £1,000 a day to run the hospice (around £400,000 a year) which is raised by the fundraising team from events, charitable donations and grants.
The money you donate, however little, will help change the lives of so many people.
