My story

Thanks for taking the time to visit my JustGiving page.

I'm Jane Brown. I have been partially sighted since 1998 having being diagnosed with Stargardt's Disease.

'Guide Dogs for the Blind' changed my life  by restoring the confidence to be able to get out and about. Clint was my first Guide Dog and he helped get my world back in order. He retired in November 2011, and Hazie has taken over.

The charity works so hard for people like me, not just in providing and training assitance dogs. They also are there to support in so many other ways.

The charity is celebrating 80 years of helping others, and so I just want to help them.

In May I am going to stay in Keswick in Cumbria. Along with Hazie and Clint I will be walking the hills of the Lake District. Hills over 1000ft are known as Wainwrights, named after the Famous Pictorial Guides witten by Alfred Wainwright.

During my time there I hope to complete 5 such hills and would love Friends, Family and Supporters to sponsor my efforts.

Donating through JustGiving is simple, fast and totally secure. Your details are safe with JustGiving – they’ll never sell them on or send unwanted emails. Once you donate, they’ll send your money directly to the charity and make sure Gift Aid is reclaimed on every eligible donation by a UK taxpayer. So it’s the most efficient way to donate - I raise more, whilst saving time and cutting costs for the charity.

So please dig deep and donate now.

My updates 1

£500 target reached earlier than expected due to so much generosity. So I have decided to raise my target to £1000. I am sure that we can do this. Many many thanks to all those people who have donated so far. This means so much to me and Guide Dogs

The Guide Dogs for the Blind Association

Charity Registration No. in England and Wales 209617 and Scotland SC038979

The ability to get around is vital in order to live a full life yet thousands of blind and partially sighted people never leave home alone. Guide Dogs empowers visually impaired people to do that and relies totally on the support of the public to fund the guide dog service. We breed and train guide dogs which provide life changing mobility and there are currently 4,500 working guide dog partnerships in the UK. The full lifetime cost of a guide dog from birth to retirement is £48,500. We will not rest until blind and partially sighted people can enjoy the same freedom of movement as everyone else.
