My story

I’m running my first ever half marathon on the 6th MAY 2012 for The Forge to help disadvantaged children, families and adults in Scunthorpe.

PLEASE NOTE - VANL will only be holding the money raised - 100% of the proceeds will go directly to The Forge.

My Story

I chose The Forge as one of my key concerns is poverty, and its impact on children, families and adults in the area. There are several charities in the town involved in these areas, but I decided to support The Forge based on their wide range of services used by local residents. I am also keen to see money raised locally being spent locally by the people responsible for delivering the service.

The Forge provide a regular Adult Day Centre for homeless and roofless people, a Senior Citizen’s Luncheon club and a Child Contact Centre. All of these services are delivered by just three permanent members of staff supported by a team of volunteers.

I believe that they make a real difference to vulnerable children, families and adults in the area by providing help and support to families, assisting adults in finding accommodation and work and by delivering practical support in terms of hot meals and hampers.

Please help me support this charity by making a small donation via Voluntary Action North Lincolnshire’s (VANL) just giving page, and by telling your friends and work colleagues. VANL will hold the money until all is collected and transfer 100% of the funds to The Forge.

Donating through JustGiving is simple, fast and totally secure. Your details are safe with JustGiving – they’ll never sell them on or send unwanted emails. Once you donate, they’ll send your money directly to the charity and make sure Gift Aid is reclaimed on every eligible donation by a UK taxpayer. So it’s the most efficient way to donate - I raise more, whilst saving time and cutting costs for the charity.

So please dig deep and donate now.

The race starts at 09:00 on Sunday 6th May at quibel park and ends at glanford park. the majority of the circuit is to be run down scotter road to messingham and then back along the trent side. This page will remain open for a month after, which is why the date next to the event is a little misleading - sorry about that ;)

My updates 4

Well, we did the race yesterday, and have had a flood of new donations on & off line. I was very happy with the outcome, completing in just under 2:40 mins. Here's some pics and more info: http://www.visitscunthorpe.com/ScunthorpeNews/Headline/Scunthorpe-Half-Marathon
