Story
We are taking part in the Beaune Challenge ride from Caen to Beaune, 500miles over 3 days, aiming to raise over £1000 for charity. We plan to ride in pairs, so will each do 250 miles
Our team of 4 (one of 80) consisting of Martin, Simon, Mary and Phil, will set off from Portsmouth on the overnight ferry and will start in the early hours of Thursday Sept 27 by crossing the Pegasus Bridge, famous for the start of the D-Day landings. We ride through Normandy then down to the Loire Valley.
Day 2 will see us riding along the Loire to the Auvergne and on Day 3 we cycle through the Beaujolais hills then the Burgundy vineyards to our destination of Beaune, where we will have a well–earned celebration in the Hospice de Beaune.
Half the money we raise will go to CAC’s chosen charities Cancer Relief UK and British Heart Foundation, but the other half will go to our chosen charity, PC Project.
Phil and our son Chris have a rare inherited skin condition, pachyonychia congenita, which causes very painful blistering and calluses along with other skin problems. PC Project supports sufferers, who generally have a much more severe form than Phil, and raises money for research into the genetics, treatment and hopefully one day a cure.
