First £100! Thanks to all who have donated so far. Really appreciate it. Your donations are what will keep me going the last few miles. Please share with others. Thanks. Chris
AUTISM SPECTRUM DISORDERS (ASD) are currently believed to affect 1 person in 110. Some sources are now saying this is lower, 1 in 91. The divorce rate between parents of children with an ASD is 80%. We know first hand the affects a diagnosis of autism can have within a family, and the support the family as a whole need to rise to the new challenges it presents.
THE LONG PUSH 2012 is a 100 mile solo round trip by longboard from Southport to Fleetwood on the North West coast and back to Southport. Chris will be pushing the full 100 mile journey over two days in August or September 2012. The exact date is to be confirmed at short notice, on confirmed forecasts of good weather. But the planning, training and build up to help raise autism awareness is already underway and you can follow this on Facebook, Youtube and Twitter, but particularly at www.thelongpush.blogspot.com
The aims of THE LONG PUSH 2012 are to raise autism awareness and to raise money for a UK based autism support charity, FAMILIES CONNECTED. “Connecting the families of children with Autistic Spectrum Disorders by giving them a voice and a forum for support”.
Families living with a child with ASD can find it to be an isolating experience. FAMILIES CONNECTED was founded to provide avenues for communication between families who can understand each others experiences and help others through sharing. FAMILIES CONNECTED works to help families find support from a community who understands the effects of ASD on family and daily life.
You can find out more about the charity here: www.families-connected.org.uk/ or at their Facebook Page.
HOW CAN YOU HELP?
· By simply ‘liking’ and sharing THE LONG PUSH – Longboarding for Autism Awareness Facebook Page
· By following and sharing THE LONG PUSH blog
· By following and re-tweeting @TheLongPush on Twitter
· By making a donation via THE LONG PUSH ‘Just Giving’ page
· By sponsoring THE LONG PUSH in some way, through making a donation, supplying product for a charity auction, providing product support for the two day 100 mile journey itself and promoting the journey to help further raise awareness of autism.
Donating through JustGiving is simple, fast and totally secure. Your details are safe with JustGiving – they’ll never sell them on or send unwanted emails. Once you donate, they’ll send your money directly to the charity and make sure Gift Aid is reclaimed on every eligible donation by a UK taxpayer.
