Stop press; Gary successfully completed his walk in 48 days. You can read a day-by-day account of his adventure on his blog, but please remember to come back and make a donation;

Hi, I'm Gary Qualter from Exmouth in Devon, I've been working as a milkman in nearby Exeter for 10 years. On August 20th 2010 I'll be setting off on my epic walk that spans the entire length of Great Britain. I hope to average 20 miles per day and complete the distance within 8 weeks. I'm walking solo and unsupported, most nights will be spent under the stars in my one-man tent.
There are two reasons why I have decided to embark on such a demanding test of stamina;
1. To walk the famous John o'Groats to Lands End route has been a lifelong ambition for me. I love a bit of adventure and I can't think of a better way of exploring our beautiful country.
2. It gives me a great opportunity for me to raise funds for a wonderful charity; MacMillan Cancer Support.
I would be very grateful if you would consider digging deep and making a donation to MacMillan to make my challenging task feel even more worthwhile. The easiest way is to click the 'donate now' button on this page, alternatively you can send a cheque payable to 'MacMillan Cancer Support' to Gary Qualter Walk, c/o Dairy Crest, Pinbrook Road, Exeter EX4 8HH.
Every single penny donated is going to MacMillan, no expenses will deducted from the money raised.
I would like to say a big thank-you to the team at Dairy Crest's Milk & More delivery service, without their generous support this walk would not be possible. www.milkandmore.co.uk
Special thanks must also go to my family, particularly Lea, for backing me all the way and putting up with me endlessly going on about the walk for the last year or so.
Thanks for looking!
Gary
