Story
On 11th May 1985, 56 people lost their lives in a fire at the Bradford City football ground. Another 200 were seriously injured. In the wake of this tragedy the Bradford Burns Research Unit was created, and its work has since played a major part in both reducing burn-related fatalities and helping burn victims across the UK deal with the physical & psychological effects. The Unit, which is partly funded by voluntary contributions, is now under threat from closure and a 25th anniversary Appeal has been set up aimed at raising the £100,000 necessary to keep it going.
The Burns Unit is a world class centre for burns treatment and research and happens to be less than 10 miles from our Leeds office. In order to raise money for this worthy cause, my colleagues and I are going to run the equivalent distance of our London office to our Bristol office (around 100 miles). As there are only 8 of us based in our Leeds office (of mixed abilities!) this means we will need to average close on a half marathon each. We shall be doing the run on March 19th - so not long to go.
I currently work for a company which has a charitable foundation which will match every penny raised - As the amount you pledge is effectively worth double, this is a fantastic opportunity to make a significant contribution to the Burns Unit's target.
Thanks for any support you can give.
Take care,
Tim.
