After many years of talking about it, I have finally committed to a Trip to help disadvantaged Kids. I will be travelling to Ethiopia in October to help build a Childrens home and school in Bekoji. Take a look at the photos to get a flavour of what we will face. It is not going to be a holiday.

I am travelling as the Token Heathen with a group of fantastic people from Tonbridge Baptist Church, and we are working alongside the Charity Kidsalive UK. Follow this link to see the good work done by this charity generally http://www.kidsaliveuk.org/ and for Ethiopia particularly http://www.kidsaliveuk.org/Groups/72858/Kids_Alive/Where_We_Work/Africa/Ethiopia/Ethiopia.aspx

Please be reassured that I am paying my own travel and subsistence costs, you are not subsidising a fancy holiday here. See the photos of the accomodation provided to put your mind at rest. Every penny you donate and the Tax they can claim back, will be spent on improving tthe lives and future chances for these children. Often orphans, and HIV positive, abandoned and hungry, these Children need our help. There are many deserving causes in the world, but we can only help them one at a time. This time I am helping here.

So please give generously. All you UK higher rate tax payers can claim tax back on this donation, so you can give even more generously and take pleasure from reclaiming your well deserved refund.

The fun Part. Before I go to Ethiopia for 2 weeks hard work at high altitude I need to get Fitter and healthier. At the moment I weigh exactly 20 stone, according to my bathroom scales, and that is after I spent 2 weeks eating salad already. for our metric and colonial cousins, 20 Stone is 280 Lbs, or 127 Kgs. I guess that makes me a fattie any way you want to measure it.

So the challenge is to guess what my weight will be when I return from Ethiopia. When you donate simply make your prediction along with any "encouraging" remarks for me.

The person who guesses closest to my weight when I return will get a selection of Ethiopian Goodies. Their coffee is pretty good, not sure about the booze, they do make Wine and Spirits, but mainly it seems to be Homebrew and bootleg,So maybe We'll give that a miss. They have a signature meal of a fermented dough pancake and a spicy stew, called a Wot. Doesn't have the same ring to it as a nice Ruby, but I bet it has a similar effect.

Whatever it is it will be a cultural moment in your life and a little bit of Ethiopia in your tummy.

Entry into this prize draw is free so If you are a cheapskate feel free to make a prediction without making a donation. My Facebook page is http://www.facebook.com/profile.php?id=676371218 and you can leave me a message there. All predictions will be entered into the prize draw whether submitted through Facebook or Just Giving.

Donating through JustGiving is simple, fast and totally secure. Your details are safe with JustGiving – they’ll never sell them on or send unwanted emails.
