Thanks for taking the time to visit my JustGiving page.
Yes I am off on my travels again but this time I'm running in Africa itself and taking Anne with me so please support our efforts to improve the lives of all those farmers and families that Farm Africa works with. We will be running at extreme altitude so it will be quite tough but our thoughts will be with those we shall visit in the following week when we see first hand how your generous donations are helping them out of the cycle of poverty.
Well the above is history now and what an experience. The run was very tough, the mind was willing to go for it but the body had different ideas, altitude just saps all your energy and leaves you gasping. Anne and I did it though and got in to the mood joining in the chanting and dancing that is the Ethiopian way. The people are so warm and friendly. I can also report that the projects we visited are going really well and achieving great things by lifting the poorest families out of poverty. We met women like Mametoo who before she was nominated to participate in the project was really struggling to feed her family and had to work long hours for other people. Farm Africa trained her in basic veterinary stock tasks and was now treating livestock in her village not only improving the care of these animals but also giving her the pride and self esteem that goes with having her own business. Her children can now go to school and she is saving a small amount each fortnight which she plans to use to buy her own livestock. All this from just a simple training project no hand outs, no food aid just lasting knowledge and empowerment!
