<p class="MsoNormal" style="margin: 0cm 0cm 10pt;"><span style="font-size: small;">I’m keeping busy; training hard for the European Age-Group Triathlon Championships, being held in Israel, in April 2012.</span></p>
<p class="MsoNormal" style="margin: 0cm 0cm 10pt;"><span style="font-size: small;">It is a great honour and personal achievement to be representing Team GB at the European Championships at an amateur level. </span></p>
<p class="MsoNormal" style="margin: 0cm 0cm 10pt;"><span style="font-size: small;">As you know I have a stammer, and I thought the triathlon would be a good opportunity to raise money for a charity close to my heart, the British Stammering Association (BSA).</span></p>
<p class="MsoNormal" style="margin: 0cm 0cm 10pt;"><span style="font-size: small;">The BSA provides much needed support to people who stammer, and importantly also provides advice to schools and employers.</span></p>
<p class="MsoNormal" style="margin: 0cm 0cm 10pt;"><span style="mso-bidi-font-family: Arial;"><span style="font-size: small;">5% of children under the age of five will go through a phase of stammering at some stage in their speech and language development.</span></span></p>
<p class="MsoNormal" style="margin: 0cm 0cm 10pt;"><span style="font-size: small;">1% of the adult population stammer, and stammering affects people in different ways. Speech and language therapy can make a positive difference in people who stammer but there is no “magical cure”.</span></p>
<p class="MsoNormal" style="margin: 0cm 0cm 10pt;"><span style="mso-bidi-font-family: Arial;"><span style="font-size: small;">A stammer can mask true skills and hold people back, but with the right support it needn’t be the case as the following famous people with stammers have shown:</span></span></p>
<p class="MsoNormal" style="margin: 0cm 0cm 10pt;"><span style="mso-bidi-font-family: Arial;"><span style="font-size: small;">Marilyn Monroe, Sir Winston Churchill, King George V and Sir Isaac Newton. </span></span></p>
