Andy Hill and I will be cycling across America on road bikes in an unsupported effort to complete 4,200 miles in 40 days. Starting out from Seattle on American Independence day and cycling in to Boston on 18th August. Daily mileages will vary between 61 and 150, with an average of 100 miles a day. This is a complex logistical trip that has required considerable planning. We intend only to carry eight litres of additional luggage, so are aiming to go 'fast and light'.

We anticipate burning around six to seven thousand calories a day. So maintaining body weight and power output will be crucial to our success. We will be shipping out high protein and energy foods to strategic motels on our route.

Why am I asking you to donate to Yorkshire Cancer Research? Since loosing my first wife, Rowenna, to cancer just before her fortieth birthday, I have been very aware of how many lives this terrible disease affects. So many of us have lost loved ones and friends. We know that continuing research into treatments and causes of many cancers is making real progress. This research needs to be funded. So while we cycle and we sweat up the hills and freeze down the hills and our legs scream for us to stop pedalling, we ask you to make a donation so we can take more steps  towards controlling this indiscriminate disease.
