My story
The little man in the picture is my nephew George. He's one year old and sadly, it doesn't look like he's ever going to be able to walk.
This seems pretty unfair - especially if you've met George - and I'm absolutely gutted for him. It's because he's one of only 100 people a year who are diagnosed with Spinal Muscular Atrophy, a genetic condition that stops signals from his brain reaching his muscles properly. He can sit up and use his arms, and we really hope that's not going to change.
The Jennifer Trust is the only UK charity helping those affected by this condition. They support families and promote research. www.jtsma.org.uk
And don't think that I'm cheating by picking a cycling event! The Fred Whitton is one of the hardest road rides in the UK and it's one of the only things I've done on a bike that I'm nervous about. That's partly because it's a road ride and I'm going to be bored out of my mind, but mainly because it goes over Hardknott Pass (1 in 3!) after 95 hilly miles...
Please give George your money. If you don't, his twin brother Harry is getting pretty enormous (and loud) and will come round and howl at you.

The charity offers a range of support services to help families cope with both the emotional and practical issues that the diagnosis brings, whilst funding research to find answers for tomorrow.
