We pioneer life-saving cancer research to help us beat cancer

Story

At 6am on the 6th September 2014 I will set off from the start line of the Great North Run carrying a 42kg Smeg fridge on my back and attempt to run the exact route over and over again non-stop for at least 24 hours, after which, I will join the fifty thousand plus runners of the Great North Run and run it one more time.

My aim is to give hope to people who are fighting or are affected by cancer, by running seemingly impossible distances carrying a 42kg Smeg Fridge on my back. The fridge symbolises the huge burden we all feel if a loved one is struck down by this awful disease.

Pain is always a result of my challenges but I believe passionately in what I do and why I do it.

I have faith that although the journey seems impossible, we will beat cancer.

I am so very proud and honoured to be attempting what is the toughest feat of endurance I have ever undertaken, in aid of Cancer Research UK.

A Mapyx GPS Live Tracker will track my entire journey, and my hope is people will log on to the event live and help inspire me to the finish, all the time donating and making it worth the while.

The challenge will no doubt take me the depths of despair and physical exhaustion, but with your support and my training, skills and courage to get through extreme journeys, we can inspire hope and raise tens of thousands of pounds for Cancer Research UK.

My journey began because our family has been decimated by cancer; we have lost too many loved ones in the prime of their lives, making this cause very close to my heart.

If I can make a difference by carrying a fridge over distance, then I will run to the four corners of the earth to increase awareness and continue to raise money for the ongoing research into early detection, more effective treatments and ultimately, a cure for cancer.

I’m an ordinary man doing extra-ordinary things; please donate what you can and together we can make a difference.

“If you have lost somebody you love to cancer,

if you are fighting cancer right now,

if you have been affected by cancer in any way,

every step I take is a tribute to you.

Be relentless – Live in the moment – We can beat cancer.”
