Thanks for taking the time to visit my JustGiving page
WE MADE IT! HOORAH! Jenny and I completed the final leg of our walk today. We were accompanied for the last half mile by our dear friends in Unidos Samba Band, who made sure the whole town were aware that we had arrived! It has been a long and, at times, painful journey, but the thought of protecting the beautiful tigers of Karnataka kept us going when we had blisters on our blisters. Many thanks to all who have sponsored us. If you were going to but didn't get around to it, it isn't too late. You can DO IT NOW. Thank you on behalf of the tigers of India xx
HOORAH! TARGET REACHED! THE FUNDRAISING DOESN'T STOP HERE THOUGH SO PLEASE CONTINUE TO DONATE. The total cost of the project is several thousand pounds and every penny donated via this page will go straight to Global Tiger Patrol to fund the Karnataka project. THANK YOU XX
PROGRESS REPORT
Jenny and I have completed our first day's walking. We set off from the Isle of Wight Zoo in Sandown at 7am this morning. The weather has been lovely and we've had a really enjoyable trek to East Cowes via Bembridge, St. Helens, Ryde, Binstead and Wootton. 20 miles done, another 52 to go! Our feet are a little sore but hopefully after a good night's sleep we will be fighting fit again tomorrow morning. Tomorrow's walk will be further than today. Our target is East Cowes to Alum Bay.
Day 2
Our day started with a trip across the River Medina on the chain ferry. Then Cowes, Gurnard, Thorness, Porchfield, Newtown, Shalfleet and lunch at Yarmouth. Then a trek to Alum Bay. 24 miles today - according to Jenny's pedometer we did 54,000 steps each!
Day 3
A steep walk up to Tennyson Down ws rewarded by stunning views along the coast. We followed the cliff path along the whole length of the Military Road, finishing at Viewpoint car park, just above Blackgang Chine. We are now starting to feel very tired and we both have some pretty vicious blisters! Last day tomorrow - Blackgang to Sandown. We should be met on Sandown seafront by samba band Unidos, to finish the walk with a bang!
I am walking the entire Isle of Wight coastal path ( 70 miles! ) from 1st - 5th June 2011 to raise money for the tiger conservation project that is funded by the Isle of Wight Zoo via Global Tiger Patrol. Please support us by making a donation either in person or via this page (it's really simple to do - instructions below).
The project works with local people to protect wild tigers in their natural habitat in Kudremukh National Park and Bhadra Tiger Reserve in the Western Ghats region of Karnataka, India.
There are fewer than 3000 tigers left in the wild. They are threatened by habitat destruction and by illegal hunting. The Western Ghat region is one of the few places where tiger numbers are currently fairly stable. The Isle of Wight Zoo is proud to be involved in this success.
The zoo needs to raise several thousand pounds for this project and this walk is one of several fundraising events taking place over the next few weeks. Please help by sponsoring me on this walk.
